ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to understand the various dynamics of the illegal drug business and to comprehend the different facets of illicit drug marketing. It provides the role of foreign drug source countries and also to discover the global magnitude of the world's drug problem. The criminal drug trade, by virtue of its illegal nature, is a covert enterprise in which people, business decisions, and transactions all occur outside the watchful eye of the public. Because of this secrecy, much misunderstanding exists about the inner workings of the illicit drug trade. The truth is that the illicit drug business is a money-driven, calculated undertaking that gives little consideration to human anguish or social responsibility. There is no definitive estimate, the value of all illicit drugs sold annually in the United States may reach as high as $150 billion. Some $37 billion per year may be spent on cocaine alone.
