ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to understand the relationship between various types of crime and drug abuseaims to understand the relationship between various types of crime and drug abuse and explains the extent of the police corruption problem as it pertains to drug trafficking. It provides the domestic and international problem of money laundering and to realize who the money launderers are and how they operate as well as to understand what legal tools are available to prosecutors to combat money laundering. A definitive but complex correlation exists between drug crimes and other types of crime, but the nature and extent of the link between drugs and crime are far from being understood. The chapter discusses three critical forms of drug-related crime: drug use and predatory crime, police corruption, and money laundering. Each of these plays a significant role in the overall drug problem and should be considered in seeking solutions to the nation’s drug dilemma.
