ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to understand the term organized crime and analyses the traditional and non-traditional organized crime. It describes the alien conspiracy theory and to understand the factors that contribute to the growth of non-traditional organized crime. Crime in the United States has undergone many significant changes since the 1920s. It has become more pernicious due to two interrelated developments: drug abuse and organized crime. Organized crime has demonstrated not only an alarming degree of violence, but also ability to corrupt public officials at the highest levels. Gang-related violence and drug trafficking became fully ingrained in suburban areas throughout the 1990s. Because of violent gang activity, law enforcement devoted significant resources to fighting gun crime and disrupting the most violent gangs. Gangs are becoming more violent while engaging in lower-risk crime that is also less typical for them, such as prostitution and white-collar crime.
