ABSTRACT

Women entrepreneurs may intentionally use hybrid entrepreneurship as a means to reduce demand uncertainty prior to committing to their business. This chapter traces issues and dynamics of mobility of career women into executive suites and conscious choices made by successful women. Implementing innovation requires an effective balance of strategic awareness with operating experience and an optimal mix of leadership and management roles. The chapter examines career opportunities outside the realm of corporations through intrapreneurial leadership roles in venture capital-backed companies or entrepreneurial roles in women-owned firms. The Competing Values Framework (CVF) was used as the organizing schema to describe these roles since the model captures both transformational and transactional roles that are also important for managing organizational transitions. According to Ingrid Vanderveldt, a well-respected American business woman, media personality, and investor: 'Empowering women worldwide and investing in their futures can help drive growth in the global economy and promote economic vitality and security'.
