ABSTRACT
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on environmental justice issues and on case studies throughout North America and Europe. It summarizes key aspect of urban waterway restoration/revitalization/naturalization history and policy as practiced in North America and Europe. The academic research community drove much of the waterway restoration science; a relatively small number of social scientists and practitioners were involved with the social side of stakeholder involvement and exploring agenda-setting practices for urban waterway revitalization. The book lays out core theoretical foundations, specifically environmental justice and political ecology, which have promise for application to urban waterway restoration/revitalization issues. It presents a review of waterway organizational schemas for some different projects in the US It highlights a range of artistic pieces that can illuminate people's connections to urban waterways and the concepts of (in)justice that they may manifest.
