ABSTRACT

The family of Hanover are naturally soldiers, born with all the ardour of a military genius; an instance of which we shall give in our late sovereign. He came to the army of the Allies in the month of June 1708, then commanded by Prince Eugene of Savoy, and by the Duke of Marlborough, under the direction of which last he was entirely put by the Elector his father. The project of the South Sea Company, in the year 1720, was one of those schemes that may discover the blindness of those that are set upon acquiring riches, and the hidden arts that men, intent upon villainy, and who had abandoned conscience, were able to effectuate. His Highness, by being a companion of these orders, had an opportunity of being better acquainted with those of the several dignities. His modesty and goodness of heart added lustre to that treasure of divine knowledge.
