ABSTRACT

At the initiation of the King Fahd Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies at the University of Arkansas, a group of faculty were sent to tour universities in Saudi Arabia and Jordan in 1994. The Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology of Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan, responded by expressing an interest in joint projects. Negotiation ensued between Yarmouk’s Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Department of Anthropology at Arkansas, representing and funded by the King Fahd Center. Thus, the Yarmouk-Arkansas Bioarchaeology Field School was born, with its first joint project begun at Sa‘ad in 1995.
