Western imperializing tendencies have also resulted in violence to other musical traditions. In fact, music is no different from areas like the priesthood where violence has been done to women's authority. In the privileged world of the male cathedral chorister and public schoolboy a system envied the world over has been created which makes full use of a boy's musicality and intelligence. The devaluing of the oracy of process has done women no favours as many women's liturgy groups lack a person with sufficient musical education to be competent in musical notation. Christians of all traditions have reinforced their shared desires by means of music and non-Christians have been a scapegoated other with militaristic hymns like Onward Christian soldiers. The Church has often manifested a certain twisted form of community more concerned with exclusion than inclusion in the totalizing form of dogma reflected in its hymnody.
