ABSTRACT
All Economically Advanced Nations Have Urban-Based Economies, and the United States is no exception. Approximately three-fourths of the American population lives in metropolitan areas. One-quarter lives in central cities and the remaining half in the suburbs. Not only do we live in urban-based metropolitan regions, but we are highly concentrated within a few of them. Over half of the entire American population lives in just 34 metropolitan areas.
