ABSTRACT

This period of our lives centered on three important matters: we had committed ourselves to move to a retirement community; thus, we had to sell our beloved house, with all that those two decisions meant in preparatory work; and before we moved I had to complete Missionaries of Revolution. Between the time we chose our apartment in the Quadrangle (October 1985) and the time we actually moved in (August 1989), there was a long period of uncertainty because the Quaker Board of the Quadrangle found it impossible to raise the required $50 million building loan. Eventually they sold all their work and assets to the Marriott Corporation, experts in hotel building and management, and Marriott had to draw more refined architectural plans and specs, get bids, chose contractors, and then build the facility. All this delayed entry for two years.
