ABSTRACT
Honolulu was a fine place to spend our sabbatical. If one was not a tourist but a member of the academic world, interested in getting on with research and writing, the East-West Center was ideal. The university had a respectable East Asian library, there were good academic colleagues, and the center was most helpful in providing a research assistant, Mr. Anthony Ma from Hong Kong, and with as much manuscript typing as I could use.
