ABSTRACT

The Indonesian government considers technology to be a vital factor in the development of the country’s industrial sector. It becomes a means to accelerate the national development program, while simultaneously being an object of the program. National laws are enacted and presidential decrees and government regulations at the ministerial level issued to direct the implementation of technology as well as the development of technology itself. The establishment of the Office of the Minister of State for Research in 1973 (who became the minister of state for research and technology in 1978) was aimed at coordinating and further promoting the role of S&T in national development.
