ABSTRACT

The spectre of 1997 haunts Hong Kong, pushing hundreds if not thousands of its citizens to seek a safe place. The economic focus of Canadian immigration has inadvertently given an edge to the well educated, the well trained and, in particular, those qualified as entrepreneurs and investors, to emigrate to Canada. Undeniably, the economic impact on Canada, specifically the major cities of Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, is noticeable. 1 However, we know very little about these migrants’ settlement process after coming to Canada. This study is a modest attempt to shed some light on the immigration experience of these migrants and its impact on their family life.
