ABSTRACT

Korean concern about “face” may have been a blessing for Max Jamiesson, who “retired” with a cushy deal under which he soon opened a Hyundai agency near his wife’s Toyota dealership in Salinas. Thus he could say that Hyundai had treated him fairly well in giving him the chance to do his own thing, sell cars, while enjoying the good life in Carmel Valley. Greg Warner, the logical successor, did not escape so cleanly. After serving just four months as chief operating officer, he and Baik had their final falling-out over dealerships and advertising.
