ABSTRACT
Like old soldiers, empires never really die; at most they fade away. The consequences of empires usually live on for generations beyond their institutional lives, and well after actual relationships of imperial domination have ceased. Indeed, long beyond the dissolution of empires, many of the legacies of imperial domination remain so embedded in everyday existence as to be practically prosaic.
