ABSTRACT
Thepresent-daystageofthehistoryofUkrainianOrthodoxyshowsallthesigns ofsomethingtemporaryandtransitional.WehavejustseentheendoftheBolshevikperiod,duringwhichthechurchcompletelysubordinateditselftothe atheistgovernment.Inacertainsense,itwasaproductandanextensionofthat government,nomatterhowterriblethatmaysoundtosomepeople.Ontheother hand,awhollynewperiodhasjustbeguninwhichthechurchnowoperatesinan independentUkrainianstate,whereitfacesverydifferentconditionsderiving fromitsnewstatus.
