ABSTRACT

The bishops of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in Ukraine held a conference at which they expressed their views on the unification of the UAOC and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine into one Ukrainian Orthodox ChurchKiev Patriarchate under the omophorion of the author Holiness Mstyslav the First. The present-day stage of the history of Ukrainian Orthodoxy shows all the signs of something temporary and transitional. Publication has begun of party documents demonstrating that ever since the very first days of Soviet government the Communist Party had been engaged in systematic subversive activities against the church. The Politburo commission was named the main coordinating center of all antireligious propaganda and was instructed to work out a plan of concrete actions. On 8 March 1928, Panas Liubchenko approved an estimate of budgeted expenditures for GPU work with religious groups in the first half of 1928.
