ABSTRACT

After I resigned from the Ministry of Rehabilitation, my welfare work among the general public increased fourfold. I was elected Chair of the Northern Railway Employees’ Union and was constantly engaged in discussing the problems of the employees with higher authorities. This meant frequent trips to the office of the General Manager of the Northern Railways, Sardar Karnail Singh, a good friend of my husband’s. Every time I entered his office he would jokingly remark, “My boss has come.”
