Institutionalism as a School—A Reconsideration

In recent years institutionalists have tortured themselves with questions such as: “Is there a fundamental split between ‘Western Institutionalists’ and ‘Eastern Institutionalists’?” ¹ “Is there a ‘Texas School’?” ² “Is John Commons appropriately included among the founders of Institutionalism?” (Specifically, “did he have the same ‘paradigm’ as Wesley C. Mitchell and Thorstein Veblen?” ³ ) Neoinstitutionalists have even begun to question each others’ credentials. ⁴
