Studies of Chinese Politics

Studies of post-1949 Chinese politics have demonstrated some distinct trends. Several factors have influenced the way that scholars investigate and interpret Chinese politics: the sources of available data; current political events; and trends within the broader discipline of political science. In response to these factors, four interrelated characteristics of the field have changed over time: research topics; basic paradigms (sets of assumptions and conceptions); research puzzles; and emotional tone or normative evaluation.
