Library Resources for Contemporary China Studies

For more than four decades since the end of World War 11, major American libraries have been diligent in their efforts to develop and maintain an essential corpus of research materials on contemporary China, including the history of the Chinese Communist movement. I Today, the combined strength of such resources in the United States is undoubtedly the greatest and the most comprehensive in the Western world. This chapter attempts to survey the past achievements, the present status, and the future prospects of the development of research resources on contemporary China in American libraries, and offers some recommendations.
