Theworkersoftheworldarelessunitedtodaythanacenturyago,whenlaborwas internationalandcapitalnationalinorientation.Labormovementsaroundtheworld nowoperateprimarilyonanational(or,insomecases,local)basis,eventhough capitalhasbecomeincreasinglyinternationalized.Inrecentyears,astransportationandcommunicationcostshavedroppedandbarrierstointernationaltrade andinvestmenthavecollapsedinnationafternation,capital'sincreasedmobility hasdramaticallyweakenedorganizedlaborinvirtuallyeverycountry.
