ABSTRACT

Research into the resistance to market relations was undertaken by the author at the Academy of National Economy . The major objective of the research was to reveal a psychological state caused by oncoming market relations. The feeling of being pushed toward market relations against their will is another reason for resistance to the economic reform on the part of a significant share of the population. The psychological preparation of the population and of the policymakers in this field is totally inadequate. Author's research may be of interest for foreign business people who intend to develop business contacts with entrepreneurs in the former Soviet Union. Repeated attempts by psychologists in the former Soviet Union to suggest some recommendations elaborating psychological approaches to the economic changes have repeatedly been rejected. Besides, the leading economists of the former Soviet Union do not share a unanimous opinion concerning the best way for a transition to a market economy.
