Postcommunist New Thinking on Human Rights

Our country's preoccupation with human rights reflects the influence both of a growing global movement for them and of our own new political thinking. This rejection of totalitarian ideology associates a civilized way of life and progress with the individual's genuine participation in the making of political, economic, social, and cultural decisions. The role of human rights is to guarantee that participation, to transform the human being from a passive witness into an active participant in all world events.
