ABSTRACT

The inauguration of the People’s Republic of China’s Open-door Policy in 1978 has led to the rapid integration of Hong Kong with China, especially with Guangdong Province. As wages have risen rapidly in Hong Kong, its labor-intensive industries have moved to the mainland on a large scale. The synergy of China’s cheap labor with Hong Kong’s know-how and capital was the main factor behind China’s spectacular export drive, as acknowledged in earlier chapters.
