ABSTRACT

The new discoveries have greatly expanded what we understand to be the area of distribution of Paleolithic culture in our country. In the new configuration, the territory extends as far north as Mohe County in Heilongjiang province. The count of stone implements discovered is in the tens of thousands, and there are also hundreds of bone implements and several dozen pieces of horn tools and decorative fragments. In the forty-some years from the 1930s to the 1970s, very few polished or scrape bone and antler tools of the Paleolithic age have been published. In the North, the cultural tradition of the Early and Middle Paleolithic, which was predominantly represented by small stone tools, was continued and developed. In general, the Paleolithic cultures of this region at this period represented, on the one hand, the continuation of an earlier legacy, and, on the other hand, a peculiarity of their own type of development.
