ABSTRACT

The scope of ethnology, as a specialized field of study that takes as its object nationalities or human communities, is both broad and deep. The path on which New China’s ethnology has progressed is closely connected to the practice of revolution and construction undertaken by people of all nationalities in China under the party’s leadership. In the first few years after Liberation, ethnological workers undertook a great deal of investigative work, particularly in the area of identifying nationalities. After Liberation, the people of all nationalities attained, under the leadership of the party, national equality. The system of national oppression and suppression was abolished. The principal research method of ethnological studies is field investigation. The portion that relates to the study of ethnology, the material that has been accumulated, and the results that have been attained all are a most valuable treasure that China’s ethnology workers are able to offer to the motherland and its people.
