ABSTRACT

Ancient things are the subject of study of archaeology, but as a scientific discipline, archaeology is a very new field. Its origins, though, are very early because once a society has developed to a certain stage, and once the ideas and consciousness of its members have developed to a certain stage, they generate an interest in their own historical past and in the relics and traces left behind by their ancient ancestors. The concept of “archaeology” and its boundaries as a subject of study are not always the same over time, and they are also different, even in the same time period, in the minds and interpretations of different people. The Chinese term for archaeology, kaoguxue, is translated from European languages, and the common etymological root of the term “archaeology” in these European languages is the word “archaiologia.” Archaeology is a department of the science of history.
