WEHAVEALREADYEXAMINEDdisappointmentinmarriageandthechangingattitudestowardin-lawsascommonthemesofletterstoJinseiAnnai. Therearesomeadditionalfamilyproblemswhichgenerateafairshareof letters,includingsensitivesituationsthatariseasmuchasanythingelse fromthesheersuccessandstrengthoftheJapanesefamily.Strongfamily tiescanbeamixedblessinginthemodemworld,tuggingastheyoftendo inoppositedirectionsfromthepathsthatpeoplefindtheymusttake.Guilt andconfusioncanresult:thecareofJapan'selderlypopulationevokesboth ofthesefeelings.Manyoldpeoplelearntolowerexpectationsandhave therebytakensomepressureoffthepresentworkinggeneration,butthe wholesubjectremainsagreatunresolveddilemma.
