ABSTRACT

As we approach the seventieth anniversary of our socialist history, we look more and more frequently and persistently back over the path that our country has traversed, striving to penetrate the essence of events that no longer reverberate, and to evaluate accurately and truthfully both our achievements and our mistakes. "Each generation has made its contribution to the development, strengthening, and defense of the conquests of October," M. S. Gorbachev noted at the June (1987) Plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU. "We are justly proud of our history, and look with confidence to the future."
