ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Chinese commentary pertaining to nuclear weapons during the period from February 1951 to August 1953. The Chinese leadership, in contrast, had developed a theory of the deterrent value of Soviet possession of nuclear weapons more fully and publicly than the Soviets themselves. Only the Soviet Union directs its attention to the use of the atomic energy in peaceful construction. The end of the Second World War, the US has never stopped making atomic weapons; and has time and again used the atomic weapons as a threat against the peoples in the Soviet Union. The Chinese alleged that the United States employed both chemical warfare and biological warfare in Korea. Standard Western histories of the Korean War have uniformly dismissed the Chinese charges as an extreme and bizarre product of Chinese propaganda. The Chinese biological warfare charges and “campaign” beginning in February 1952 is a much more difficult, complicated, and perplexing matter.
