ABSTRACT

I like these papers. Individually, each is extremely interesting and informative; taken together, they are fascinating. Fundamentally, each asks the same basic question—What is the nature and extent of male racial differences in the labor market? Each uses information from the decennial censuses. Yet, their underlying theoretical frameworks substantially differ as do their quantitative findings. Not surprisingly, each writer is able to argue that the results support his position. The "facts" speak in three different voices and are unable to settle the competition between paradigms.
