Background note: The Church of God mission was initiated by Jennie B. Rushin in 1914. Interrupted by the Chinese civil war in 1927, the mission was re-established in 1936 by Paul C. Pitt, who brought Bethe1 (Bethany) Mission (Free Methodist Church, Canada) into the Church of God. All Church of God missionaries were evacuated in 1949.
