ABSTRACT
Censuses are appropriate databases for the study of household structure, particularly in Africa. Researchers have proposed typologies of African households that allow for comparisons between time periods or between countries (Wakam 1996). Census data are also of great interest for the study of specific topics related to household structure, such as child fosterage.
