Functionsorprograms:TheEuropeanCommissionisrepresentedinthe UnitedStatesbyadelegationinWashington.Recognizingtheimportanceof AmericansupportforEuropeanintegration,theUnion'sfoundersopenedan informationofficeinWashingtonin1954.In1971,itbecameadelegation withfulldiplomaticprivilegesandimmunities.TheHeadoftheDelegation wasaccordedfullambassadorialstatusin1990.
