ABSTRACT
Myanmar’s emergence from a period of inward-looking economic policies has been met with mixed international response. The nation is, nonetheless, proceeding with reforms directed toward the opening of its economy so as to improve the economic and social conditions of the people. This chapter provides an overview of the historical nature of these developments as well as evaluates some of the present conditions, which may be responsible for shaping the future.
