ABSTRACT

The relationship between Japan and Latin America is strong in blood but weak in business. There are around 1.3 million nikkei-jin people of Japanese origin in Latin America, the largest population outside Japan. Recently these people have filled the demand for hardworking manual labor in Japan (called dekasegi). Around 200,000 are said to be living in Japan at present. This is a new phenomenon which has given rise to economic, social, cultural and even psychological problems.
