ABSTRACT

Any attempt to use the Internet to discover all the sources concerning “ancient” cultures will prove frustrating at worst and annoying at best. Terms are inconsistently used not only on the Internet and WWW but also between institutions, professionals, and cataloging systems. Instead of just typing in the term “ancient,” it may be wisest to try to determine what terms are used most often for the culture and time period you are interested in. If your interest is very new and you are unsure of the correct terminology, look for the general regional or cultural term and scan the results for hints as to the time period covered, or find a general site that gives an outline of the history of that place and people.
