ABSTRACT

This electronic journal provides scholarly articles on Irish history, high-quality postgraduate reports, and a historians' forum. Subtitled the Irish Studies Network, this very thorough site takes a very broad view of Irish studies. There are almost 1,700 reviewed sites, ranging from archaeology, Celtic history, church history, economic history, Irish diaspora, social history, nationalism, to Northern Ireland. Irish Diaspora Studies is the name given to the worldwide, scholarly, interdisciplinary study of Irish emigration and its social, linguistic, economic, cultural, and political causes and consequences. The Irish diaspora list provides an e-mail discussion forum dealing with social, economic, linguistic, cultural, and political aspects. The history section covers the gamut of ten main topics dealt with in the current Irish Leaving Certificate examination, taken by Irish students at the end of their high school education. An understanding of the Treaty debate is essential for any student of contemporary Irish history.
