Whether Napoleon really said it or not, the forecast often attributed to him is likely to be essentially correct: “China is a sleeping giant. When it wakes, it will move the world.” China’s 1.2 billion people combined with its record-breaking twenty years of rapid growth make it likely that the Middle Kingdom will become the second economic superpower sometime during the twenty-first century.
