ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Alexander Gelevich Dugin and on Eduard Limonov as individuals - their personal backgrounds, the formation of their political views, the style and content of their published works, and the nature and extent of their social influence. It analyzes the National-Bolshevik Party (NBP) as a political organization. The close links between the NBP and youth subcultures and also a relatively non-dogmatic approach to doctrinal matters, contribute to its appeal to young people. The cultural and intellectual influence in Russian society that Limonov and Dugin possess as prominent creative figures in their own right is much broader than any influence that the NBP may have as an organization. Standard dress for NBP members is a black leather jacket, a black beret, and army boots. In principle, therefore, a person who is loyal to Russia, whatever his religion or ethnic origin, may join the NBP and the new national elite.
