ABSTRACT
Economics as a formal discipline came into its own in response to the need for dealing with pressing economic problems. As nation-states devel oped in Europe in the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries and societies evolved from feudalism to commercialism and then to industrial ism, people were forced to make economic policies and decisions and therefore to seek economic understanding.
