ABSTRACT
The above quote of former Massachusetts governor and Democratic presi dential candidate Michael Dukakis opens the Pandora’s box that the media try to keep closed. Instead of providing us with news that reveals the positive as well as negative aspects of our culture, the media concentrate on the sen sational and the violent, giving the impression, especially to unsophisticated young people, that violence is our societal norm.
