But Carry a Big Stick

Without question the best-known and probably the most influential political talk show host on the air in the last decade of the twentieth century has been Rush Limbaugh. Although Howard Stem and Larry King may have more viewers and, to many people, are as great as or greater than Rush Limbaugh, Stem’s forte has been essentially adolescent bathroom humor, mixed with an appropriately outra geous blend of right-wing libertarian political attitudes (he once ran for governor of New York on the Libertarian ticket), and King is essentially oriented to personality entertainment, with an occasional mixture of liberal politics.
