ABSTRACT

General Ridgeway, who replaced General MacArthur as Supreme Commander, was in my opinion one of our outstanding combat soldiers. I had known him for many years, and I had great admiration and respect for him. General Van Fleet had arrived to take over command of the Eighth Army, which General Ridgeway had relinquished. I had known him as a battalion commander in the Twentyninth Infantry at Fort Benning years before. He, in turn, was a very able fighter. Having been required to halt the advance of the United Nations Command at the thirty-eighth parallel, he had disposed his troops in depth over this tremendous front.
