ABSTRACT

Barbara Jackson points out that the project closeout period can be one of stress and anxiety as both the project management team and the contractor sprint to the finish line-often a grand opening or deadline set far in advance for use or occupancy. Publicizing a completed project is a very variable undertaking for the simple reason that public projects themselves are so variable. Announcements of newly completed projects also must be tailored to fit particular groups of stakeholders. While the project-based context is slightly different from the American-oriented public sector projects, the consequences of inadequate monitoring are certainly the same. Aside from managing the project planning, execution, and operational issues, managers of almost all public projects involving the creation of tangible assets must be concerned with the long-term maintenance of those assets.
