ABSTRACT

The demonstration speech is designed to show one's audience how to do something so that they will be able to do it on their own or have a better understanding of how it is done. one might deliver a demonstration speech to teach his audience how to make Swedish pancakes or to show them how various mathematical problems can be solved with a slide rule. A second method of communicating information, description, engages the listeners' senses by creating a clear picture of what is being communicated. In a description speech one describes an object, person, place, event, or experience. Descriptions of people, places, and events are part of our everyday communication. We insist on an in-depth description of our roommate's cousin before agreeing to a blind date. We talk to a number of people who have vacationed at that new island paradise before we agree to go.
