ABSTRACT

The majority of impressive professional speakers we have observed in person or heard on radio or television were speakers who probably sounded more like formal orators whose voices boomed rather than whispered, whose gestures painted grandiose scenes, and whose bodies illustrated every phrase. A speaker's attire can enhance or detract from the effectiveness of the presentation. An enlarged conversational quality of speaking means talking with the same naturalness and quality of voice we would use when speaking with another person, only enlarged just a little. The manner in which eye-contact behavior is interpreted varies from culture to culture. But in US culture, we are expected to have direct eye contact if we are to be perceived as interested, honest, and credible. Social media can provide us with a variety of ways to make our speech more relevant, our interactions with our audience more rewarding, our information more accessible, and our speech available to the world.
