ABSTRACT

Every day you participate in the act of interpersonal communication. You converse with friends, negotiate with members of your family, become involved in con-flicts, and send messages to and receive messages from your instructors. To participate successfully in all of these interactions, you need to master certain interpersonal skills, including how to participate in conversations, give directions, make requests, ask and answer questions, resolve conflicts, accomplish goals, and handle rejection and criticism. You should also be aware of the cultural influences that affect these concepts.
