ABSTRACT
The man we know as Buddha (or, more properly, Shakyamuni Buddha) was not a mythic figure. He was a flesh-and-blood human being—of that we can be certain. He was born in North India sometime around 563 B.C.E. and presumably lived a long life, perhaps being about eighty years old when he died.
